It is just after a month of launching the Android One phone aka Mi A1, Xiaomi is set to launch a new selfie centric smartphone is India today. Not only that, at the New Delhi event today, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is also going to announce Xiaomi’s latest UI – MIUI 9. The launch event will start at 12 PM, and will be livestreamed on the company website as well as on its YouTube channel.

Xiaomi didn’t reveal the name of the mysterious device that they will be announcing today. All that the company mentioned is — the upcoming smartphone is going to a selfie focused device. The company refers the device as – ” best selfie smartphone”. Manu Kumar Jain Managing Director of Xiaomi India while teasing the phone, mentioned — “Brace yourself, the best selfie smartphone is coming soon!” Manu also posted an image hinting at a phone with MIUI 9 onboard.

The company has been teasing the upcoming device for quite a while, and in one of the teasers Xiaomi mentioned that the upcoming device will be a part of a “New series”.

Soon after that revelation, rumours started to pour in. Some suggested the coming of Mi Note 3 – which was launched in China a couple of months ago. While some other rumours suggested that it could be a Redmi 5 phone. But then, Xiaomi shut all rumours with another teaser which mentioned — “I’m not a Note, I’m not a Book, I’m a ‘New Series’.” With this, it is confirmed that Mi Note 3 is no way coming to India for now. Chances of a Redmi 5 phone still are likely.

Nothing is known about the phone that Xiaomi will be launching in India today. All that we know is that it is going to be a selfie -centric device, and support fast charging. 

Alongside the phone, Xiaomi has officially confirmed to announce its latest UI aka MIUI 9 – which was first unveiled back in July alongside the launch of the Mi 5X. Xiaomi confirmed the coming of MIUI via a tweet where it mentioned — “We listened to your requests. Global MIUI 9 is coming to India on November 2. Are you excited?” With that, chances are that the upcoming selfie focused smartphone may also come with MIUI 9. In one of the teasers Xiaomi did use the #LighteningFastSpeed – the company was possibly indicating at the MIUI 9 itself.

The key highlights of the latest custom UI are — image search, smart assistance and smart app launcher. MIUI 9 brings several other features and improvements that include shortcuts on lock screen, split screen feature, faster app load times, smart functionality, and more. It comes along with new themes, new design on the lock screen and a new shortcut to activate the torch. There’s also the split-screen feature for multi-tasking.
