An iPhone is a status symbol for a lot of folks. Many people around the world desperately wait for Apple to announce the latest and greatest iPhone so that they can stand in line at the nearest Apple store to get their hands on their latest gadget. However, some people have other ways of getting their hands on the beloved smartphone. A Chinese woman was caught by Shenzen custom officers with a mind-boggling 102 iPhones strapped to her body.
As reported by XMNN, the custom officers noticed a woman with strange body proportions and unusual bulges passing through customs and upon searching her found four layers of iPhones wrapped around her waist and torso. She was trying to smuggle the iPhones from Hong Kong into mainland China.
Along with the 102 iPhones, the custom officials also found 15 luxury watches for a total haul of 44 pounds. Out of the 102 iPhones, a vast majority of the devices were from the iPhone 6 family. While 102 iPhones sounds like a lot, a man was arrested in 2015 with a mammoth 146 iPhones strapped to his waist and legs.
iPhones can cost up to 30 percent more in China’s mainland due to taxes and other levies. As iPhones are cheaper in Hong Kong, such cases are a very common occurrence and Chinese custom officials routinely find people trying to smuggle a dozen or so iPhones . For this custom officials team, this haul of 102 iPhones and 15 watches was the largest they had ever nabbed.
The iPhone 7 Plus was launched last year with a dual camera setup, stereo speakers and a mildly iterated design. This year, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus along with a tenth anniversary model in the form of the iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 is expected to come with a radical new bezel-less design, wireless charging, aTrueTone OLED display, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, 3D face unlocking, updated cameras with 3D sensing capabilities and much more.
