Uber today announced a new update to the app which will allow riders to update their pick-up location. This means that if the rider by chance entered the wrong pick-up location, they can go back and change it to the correct one. Uber has already started rolling out the change of pick-up feature in India.

“With this cool new feature, riders can now conveniently redirect their driver partner to correct location through the app, even when the driver is en-route,” notes Uber in a press note.

Uber app on both iOS and Android has been updated to the update pick-up feature. To which Uber says, “Starting today, riders in India, on iOS and android, can update their pickup location after they’ve booked a ride.” The update to the Uber app has been piloted in a handful of cities currently.

With the new feature, Uber says, “It was found that it led to less stress and fewer cancellations — saving time and headaches for everyone involved.” Although available only for a few cities at present, Uber confirms that the pick-up feature will be made available to all riders across the India in the coming weeks. Let’s take a quick look at how the feature works.

How to update pick-up location:

  1. After you have book a ride and your driver is en route, you’ll now see an edit option next to your pickup location, click on it

  2. Uber app will now ask you to enter your new pick-up location

  3. After entering the new pick-up address click on confirm option

  4. Once the new address is updated by the rider, the driver will be notified about the update, after which the drive will en route to the pick-up location entered by you

“Pick-ups are one of the hardest parts of the experience to get right, and they’re especially difficult when riders accidentally request a pickup from the wrong place. It often begins with a phone call and ends with a canceled ride. A small miscue can lead to a frustrating situation where riders aren’t riding, and drivers aren’t earning,” says Ryan Yu, Software Engineer and Rachel Holt, Regional General Manager, US and Canada at Uber in a blog post.

“The pick-up is a core part of the Uber experience and we’re always thinking about ways for it to be as painless as possible for both riders and drivers. This simple fix gives riders more control over their pickup experience, and saves everyone time and avoidable headaches,” says Uber.
