Lenovo fans should rejoice. Starting from the K8 Note, which is set to launch in India on August 9, all future Lenovo smartphone will run a completely stock version of Android. The K8 Note will ship with the latest version of Android – 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.
Lenovo claims that stock Android will give users a cleaner interface, a smoother experience and no excess bloat. The company also claims that the move to a common software platform will help them prove better support and efficient updates. The move towards stock Android seems to be a result of the Motorola – Lenovo partnership and is a step in the right direction.
Android Nougat comes with features such as multi-window, Doze on the go, bundled notifications, quick app switching, a night mode (blue light filter) and more. Future Lenovo will also come with support for Google AI based Google Assistant built in.
As Android is open source, most OEM’s tweak and prod the operating system to their hearts content. This sometimes results in Frankenstein versions of the software which fail to look and feel like Android altogether. These skins can also be laggy and also delay software updates considerably
The Lenovo K8 Note is a successor to the K6 Note which was launched in India last year and will be sold exclusively via Amazon when it launches in India on August 9. Photography and performance are expected to be the key highlights of the smartphone.
The K8 Note is rumoured to be powered by the deca-core MediaTek Xelio X20 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. In addition, the smartphone is expected to come with a dual-camera setup at the rear which could be the reason as to why Lenovo ditched the K7 moniker and adopted the K8 name.
