Although Sony did not have new hardware to show off at E3 2017, the Japanese giant did give the world a look at many upcoming PlayStation games including those with an emphasis on virtual reality (VR). The company also announced a major milestone for the PlayStation 4 . The iconic games console has crossed the 60 million sales mark with 60.4 million units sold so far.

Sony also revealed that it has sold more than 487.8 million games – both physical and digital – as of June 11, 2017. Sony also stated that it has more than 70 million active users as of end of March 2017 with more than 26 million of them paid PlayStation Plus subscribers. Another impressive figure shared by the company was that PS4 users spend more than 600 million hours in total per week on the platform (as of March 2017).

As mentioned above, Sony teased a bunch of upcoming PlayStation games at E3 2017 – both first-party and third-party titles:

God of War

Sony showcased the next God of War title which is titled simply ‘God of War’. The game is a soft reboot of the series and shifts focus towards Norse Mythology. The main protagonist of the God of War series Kratos is still on-board and now his son Atreus is with him for the ride. God of War will be a PS4 exclusive and will launch in early 2018.

Spider-Man

Sony also showcased the heavily anticipated PS4-exclusive Spider-Man game at E3 2017. The game has Wilson Fisk, popularised by Netflix’s Daredevil as a minor villain, the ability to play stealthily as well as hands-on and crazy stunts such as the helicopter balancing one seen in the trailer. The game does not have a definite release date as of now but it is expected to be released sometime in mid-2018.

Uncharted: Lost Legacy

The next chapter is the Uncharted saga is set in India and will involve main characters Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross on a quest to search for the tusk of Ganesh. The game is a standalone chapter in the Uncharted series and is set to be released on August 22, 2017.

VR games

Sony announced at E3 2017 that it has sold more than one million PlayStation VR headsets to date. Unlike Microsoft, who barely touched upon VR, Sony’s E3 2017 event was chock full of teasers for upcoming VR games.

The company showcased VR content for the next Skyrim title – Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Also on display was a trailer for the VR spin-off of Final Fantasy XV called Monster of the Deep, a trailer for a VR enabled sci-fi side scrolled called Star Child, a look at a new first -person VR horror title – The Inpatient as well a glimpse of an upcoming VR first person shooter called Bravo Team.
