OnePlus is all set to launch the upcoming OnePlus 5 on June 20. India launch of the OnePlus 5 is on June 22. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer concentrates at one flagship at a time. Due to which, OnePlus is reportedly discontinuing last year’s flagship phone — OnePlus 3T. Now, here comes a bad news for the OnePlus 2 users. OnePlus reportedly confirmed that OnePlus 2 will not get upgraded to the Android Nougat operating system.
OnePlus confirmed this to Android Authority. “OnePlus has officially confirmed to Android Authority that the Nougat update will not be delivered for the OnePlus 2. The refusal to update comes after promises of 24 months of update support in the past and an outright assertion from the company last year that the OnePlus 2 would get Android N,” states the report. That being said, OnePlus 2 will continue to run on Android Marshmallow like before. The report further stated, “When we asked why the OnePlus 2 wouldn’t get the update, OnePlus told us it was because “when we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now,” presumably blaming the convergence of the Hydrogen and Oxygen teams for the lack of the update.”
If rumours are to be believed, the reason behind OnePlus not getting the Android Nougat is because the company at present is only concentrating on its upcoming flagship phone — OnePlus 5. This is also why, OnePlus 3T will be discontinued soon. But, in an email statement, OnePlus confirmed to India Today Tech that OnePlus 3T will be available in India until the end of this year. Going back to OnePlus 2, the smartphone will hence continue to run on Android Marshmallow OS. However, that will not be the case for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users, as the company a few days ago confirmed that both the 2016 flagship phones will get latest Android O update soon.
Pete Lau a week ago confirmed via a tweet that OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will get Android O software update, soon after the new software is rolled out officially. “A lot of you have been asking, so I’m proud to say Android O will come to OnePlus 3 and 3T,” he says. Hearing this, some OnePlus fans were overwhelmed; however, there were some who were disappointed of OnePlus 2 not getting the latest Android update. Well, forget about Android O, OnePlus 2 will not even get Android Nougat update, which the company has already confirmed.
Google recently released Android O developer preview 3 and is expected to release the software update for the public very soon, probably in the next two months. After the Android O update, both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will get major upgrades like — better battery life and also features like — streamlined notifications, autofill, picture-in-picture, improvements in the audio system, better keyboard navigation, wide-gamut color for apps, support for third-party calling apps and a lot more.
