After launching the mid-range phone, aka the Nokia 6, Nokia (or rather HMD Global) may be gearing up to launch a budget phone based on the Android platform. The phone in question is said to be the E1, and it was recently spotted China’s 3C certification website.
As per the specifics shared by NokiaPowerUser , the alleged Nokia E1 comes with either a 5.2 or a 5.3-inch 720p screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor clubbed with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory under the hood. The phone reportedly comes with Android Nougat, a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
Additionally, Nokia may also be silently working on a virtual assistant akin to Google’s Assistant, Apple’s Siri, and Microsoft’s Cortana. Nokia’s text and voice-based virtual assistant will reportedly be called Viki, but, going by the report it’s still a little early for Nokia to actually incorporate it in its soon to be launched smartphones.
The company has reportedly filed for a trademark in the European Union for the name Viki that is apparently “software for the creation and monitoring of mobile and Web digital assistants working with knowledge and combining all data sources into a single chat and voice based interface.”
Details about both the E1 and Viki are all but scarce at the moment. One thing is clear though. Nokia is back to making smartphones. Actually, HMD Global is making these smartphones but at the end of the day they will carry the iconic Nokia branding on top. The company, only recently launched the Nokia 6, an all-metal mid-ranger exclusive to China.
