Fresh rumours of Nokia’s Android smartphone have surfaced online ahead of its expected launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 event in Barcelona.

Though the company confirmed that they would be making Android smartphones, nothing more was known about them. But if these rumours are anything to go by, Nokia’s Android could be a strong contender in the crowd.

As per the leaked information posted on Chinese blogging website weibo, the phone would sport a quad HD display – possibly with a diagonal screen size of 5.2 inch, based on top end chipset like Snapdragon 820 or the latest Snapdragon 821.

Nokia, like Huawei, would also probably keep camera a focus, with the leak claiming it would carry a lens setup from Zeiss (German lens making company as old as Leica). There is no word on the sensor or its megapixels. The company has used Zeiss lenses on its phone cameras and some of them like Lumia 920 and the Lumia 735 performed wonderfully.

Though the leakster didn’t prove the findings with an image, it is believed that the phone will be branded under Nokia and are said to be manufactured by HMD. The company’s phone business was taken over by software giant Microsoft in April 2014 and since then has been producing devices with a different head.

As for the design, the new Nokia phone is also rumoured to have a metal unibody design with waterproof capability thrown in. Though the claims should be taken with a pinch of salt, it seems Nokia is leaving no stone unturned to make its first flagship Android a competitive device. If successful, this launch will give Nokia the long needed momentum to spring back in to the smartphone business.

As the MWC event nears, more details are expected to be revealed and we will keep you posted.
