OurMine, the three-person hacker group that seems hell-bent on taking down every high-profile account, in a bid to promote better security practices, is at it, once again. The hacker group, this time round, seems to have gotten hold of Sony Music’s official Twitter account, falsely reporting that pop singer Britney Spears is dead. She’s alive and well, reports CNN.

“It appears @SonyMusicGlobal erroneously tweeted her death. Sony rep says no comment,” CNN reporter AnneClaire Stapleton has tweeted.

Controversy began when Sony’s official Twitter account posted, “RIP @britneyspears #RIPBritney 1981-2016”, and soon after followed it with another post that read, “britney spears is dead by accident! we will tell you more soon #RIPBritney.” The post, because it came from an official handle, was met with shock and a flurry of responses by fans and music lovers – still recovering from the death of music icon George Michael — on social media.

But apparently, the Sony account had been hacked, by OurMine who later posted two tweets seemingly taking responsibility for the hack. “We detected unusual activity on the account and we checked the account if it’s hacked or not”, read one tweet, while “we saw a new IP logged in to the account a few minutes ago and the tweet is posted by a new IP so @britneyspears is still alive #OurMine” said another.

OurMine is known to use their hacks to tweet fairly harmless promotions of their own security services. The group is known to make a mention that they were testing the security of the victim, and urges them to visit its website and upgrade to their services.

The hacker group has been in news a lot lately for hacking into the accounts of several high-profile accounts, ranging from those owned by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, Amazon CTO Werner Vogels, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to Evan Williams, the co-founder and former CEO of Twitter.
