Lenovo owned Motorola has launched the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus in India at an event in New Delhi. Dubbed as ‘Special Editions’, both smartphones are updated versions of the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus which were announced at MWC 2017 back in February.

The Moto G5S and G5S Plus come with bigger displays, an all metal design and improved cameras and carry the tagline – “More Metal. More Battery. Made for More.”

The Moto G5S Plus is available in only one variant – with 64GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM for Rs 15,999. The phone will be going on sale tonight at 11:59 PM exclusively via Amazon India. It will also be available via Motorola’s offline retail store Moto Hub.

The Moto G5S on the other hand has been priced at Rs 13,999 and comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The Moto G5S goes on sale tonight at 11:59PM. It will be available across all leading retail outlets as well as from Motorola’s offline store Moto Hub. It will also be available from Amazon India.

The Moto G5S Plus and G5S come with bigger displays as compared to their 6-month old predecessors. The G5S Plus features a 5.5-inch fullHD display as compared to the 5.2-inch display on the G5 Plus while the G5S comes with a 5.2-inch fullHD display as compared to the 5-inch display on the G5.

When it comes to design, both Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus are made entirely out of metal. This is a big step up from their predecessors which featured a plastic-metal hybrid chassis with a metal back plate and plastic on the sides, top and bottom. Both smartphones come with rounded edges, a curved back, a fingerprint sensor, a round camera unit and antenna bands on the top and bottom of the rear panel.

The Moto G5S Plus is powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor paired with the Adreno 506 GPU, 3/4GB of RAM and a 3,000mAh battery with TurboCharge support. It comes with 32/64GB of internal storage expandable via a micro SD card (of up to 128GB).

The Moto G5S in has comparatively moderate specs on board – it comes with the Snapdragon 430 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 3,000mAh battery with Turbo Charge support and 32GB of internal storage expandable via a microSD card slot (of up to 128GB).

Both the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus have received substantial upgrades when it comes to optics. The Moto G5S comes with an all new 16MP camera at the rear with phase detection auto focus, an aperture of f/2.0 and an LED flash. On the front, there is an 5MP wide-angle sensor with an LED flash which will make the smartphone an attractive proposition for selfie lovers.

The Moto G5S Plus comes with a dual camera setup at the rear making it the first Moto branded device in India with two cameras at the back. The two 13MP sensors have an aperture of f/2.0 and work together to offer features such as selective focus, background replacement and selective black and white colouring. The rear camera setup can also record video in 4K resolution. On the front, the G5S Plus comes with an 8MP wide-angle front camera with an LED flash.

Motorola is also offering some launch offers with the Moto G5S Plus to entice early buyers. Customers will get an extra Rs 1,000 on exchanging their old Moto phone, the opportunity to buy Moto Sports headphones that originally retail for Rs 1599 for just Rs 599, 80 per cent off on e-books (up to Rs 300) on the Amazon Kindle app and No Cost EMI on all credit cards. Jio users will also get 50GB of additional 4G data.
