Microsoft Surface Pro 4 was launched back in October 2015 alongside the Surface Book. While the Surface Book was refreshed back in 2016 with new specs, the Pro line-up is yet to receive an overhaul. That might be about to change as images of the upcoming Microsoft Pro 4 refresh have leaked online courtesy of prolific tipster Evan Blass.
Earlier this month, Microsoft’s devices chief Panos Panay had hinted that the company wasn’t planning to launch a Surface Pro 5 until it had achieved enough “meaningful change” to warrant launching an all new product. He said that the company did not want to launch a product with just upgraded specifications and label it as the next generation Surface Pro.
However, Yusuf Mehdi, CVP of Microsoft’s Windows and Device group recently added that there might be an update to the Surface Pro 4 coming soon which has now been confirmed by Evan Blass’s leak.
The leaked image points towards a design very similar to the Surface Pro 4. The only noticeable change seems to be the introduction of colorful Alcantara fabric on the keyboard, similar to the recently announced Surface Laptop. The Surface Pro keyboard and Surface Pen are expected to come in four different colors, namely Charcoal, Burgundy, Platinum and Teal.
Evleaks claims that Microsoft will follow in the footsteps of Apple, which named its recent iPad simply ‘iPad’ and call the new model ‘Surface Pro’. On the specifications front, the device is expected to come with 7th generation Intel processors which will result in improved performance and battery life.
Microsoft is holding an event in China on May 23 where they might release the Surface Pro 4 a.k.a the Surface Pro 4 refresh. Interestingly, in a reply to a user’s comment on Twitter, Evan Blass revealed that the company might also be launching a Surface Phone during the event.
