Huawei Mate 9 was launched in December last year. It’s just a four months from the launch date, and the smartphone vendor has already managed to sell out near about 5 million units of the flagship phone. This is really a milestone that Huawei achieved with its new launch.

The Chinese smartphone vendor is further working on making the Huawei Mate 9 a tremendous success. We say that, as the company is now planning to update the smartphone with the latest Android software update – Android O. Latest media reports making rounds on the internet suggest that Huawei is currently testing Android O build for Mate 9.

If that’s really the case, Huawei Mate 9 will be the Huawei is probably going to be the first non-Google OEM to start testing the latest flavour of Android for its smartphones. Starting up with the newly unveiled Huawei Mate 9. With these tweaks in its EMUI interface, Huawei is planning to make its flagship – Mate 9 compatible with all the upcoming Android operating system.

The report comes after press render on the same started making rounds on the web, which states, “Huawei is testing Android O update on Mate 9”. The leaked picture shows that the latest Android version comes with a build number – MHA-AL00C00B007-log on Mate 9. The leak further suggests that the new build will probably be called – EMUI 5.1.

Although Huawei didn’t confirm the coming of Android O officially, the picture-in-picture mode highlighted in the leaked renders almost confirms the coming of Android O onboard. If the speculations are true, Huawei Mate 9 users will now be able to be able to multi-task, for instance, watch two videos at the same time, which they couldn’t have done with the earlier Android version.

According to a report coming from a member of XDA-Developer, the initial build of the update will be probably based on the developer preview of Android O, which suggests that at first, the Huawei smartphone will only support two languages – English and Mandarin. With every passing day, the updates will also start improving further.

Not to forget, Android O itself is at an initial stage of development, hence if the rumours about Huawei Mate 9 getting the latest software update is true, it will be very limited and will be for internal testing only. This means, if the Mate 9 gets the Android O update, the company might not roll out the upgrade globally.
