Huawei’s Mate 9 successor aka Mate 10 is launching on October 16 in Munich, Germany. The company has released a teaser on Twitter that reads, “STAY TUNED FOR THE HUAWEI MATE 10 SERIES POWERED BY KIRIN 970 MUNICH CT 16.” The launch has also been confirmed by company’s CEO Richard Yu.  

Huawei in its keynote presentation at the IFA trade show unveiled the powerful Kirin 970 processor and there are heavy chances that the upcoming Huawei phones will come with the Kirin 970 chipset.Here’s what you need to know about this chipset. 

About Kirin 970 chipset

Richard Yu unveiled the Kirin 970 chipset at IFA 2017 which Huawei claims will help its upcoming flagship Mate 10 and other high-end phones to deliver faster processing and consume less power.

The Kirin 970 CPU is the first chipset to come with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which can power Huawei’s AI. The chipset is powered by an 8-core CPU, a new generation 12-core GPU and is built on 10nm process.  The chipset is designed by Huawei’s HiSilicon chip design business.

The company believes that the new Kirin 970 chipset faster speed and low power consumption can help the phone  get an edge over Apple’s iPhone 8 and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.

“Compared with Samsung and Apple, we have advantages,” Yu said in an interview to Reuters during the annual IFA trade show. “Users are in for much faster (feature) performance, longer battery life and more compact design.”

According to the company claims, the new Kirin 970 will save the phone’s battery up to 50 per cent.

Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro launching on Oct 16

Huawei will launch Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro in Munich on October 16. While the company refused to detail new features, the phones are expected to sport a 6-inch-plus full-screen displays. The phones will come with AI support.

Rumoured specs for Mate 10

The Huawei Mate 10 could come with Leica’s dual cameras aligned vertically at the back. The phone will sport a bezel less design and 2K resolution display.  Chances are the phone could sport a full metal body. The Mate 10 could come with a fingerprint sensor placed at the rear panel of the phone. There are talks that the phone could come with a  massive 6.1-inch display with Quad HD resolution. The phone would run on Android 8.0 Oreo with Huawei’s own UI on top.

Other features expected to come in Mate 10 include 3D sensor, Iris scanner, facial recognition and AR support.
