Google for a long time has been working on upgrading Hangouts, and said that they are doing so as they plan to officially end GTalk, a decade old chatting platform very soon. Living up to its words, the search giant has done exactly the same. Google has officially stopped GTalk starting Tuesday, June 27, and said that all the users will be moved to Hangouts directly.

Not many use GTalk. But, some still surely still prefer GTalk over the “advanced” Hangouts, especially the non tech savvy ones. To brush up where it all started, GTalk was first introduced back in 2005. Some 12 years ago. Back then, the advanced chatting applications like — WhatsApp, Google Allo, Facebook Messenger where non-existent and most people relied on GTalk to connect to friends, family and also used the chatting app by Google for business purpose. But, as an when the technology advanced, innumerable chatting applications started flooding in, and GTalk lost its essence due to its simplified interface.

The users who still wish the same old, legacy look of the GTalk after being shifted to Hangout, there is an easy way out for them. All the these dedicated GChat users need to do is setup the Dense Roster setting on there Hangouts and they get back the same old GTalk like design interface. This might make users miss Gtalk a little less. To which Google in its official blogpost notes, “Talk users within Gmail will receive a prompt in the next few weeks, inviting them to switch to Hangouts. After June 26, users will be automatically transitioned to Hangouts, unless contractual commitments apply. For users that preferred the Google Talk look, there is a Dense Roster setting in Hangouts that provides a similar experience.”

Google is current working on upgrading Hangout. “It is in 2013, we began replacing Google Talk with Hangouts, while still giving users the option to continue using Google Talk,” says Google. However, Google is quite confident that people will not miss GTalk much, thanks to the advanced improvements that the company brought about to Hangouts lately. “Hangouts offers advanced improvements over Google Talk such as group video calling and integration with other Google products. With the introduction of Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat, which add further improvements in meetings and team collaboration, it is now time to say goodbye to Google Talk,” says Google.
