Flipkart is at it again. After briefly selling the OnePlus 3 for Rs 18,999 the online retail giant is now selling the Apple iPhone 6 at an unbelievably low price of Rs 9,999. The iPhone 6 (Space Grey, 16 GB) actually retails for Rs 31,990 but on Flipkart you can buy the phone for as little as Rs 9,999 on exchange . That’s almost a Rs 22,000 discount.
Potential buyers can avail the offer – that is maximum discount – in exchange of the iPhone 6S Plus alone. Exchanging an iPhone 6, meanwhile, will land you a discount of Rs 14,200. And therein lies the offer’s biggest catch. The iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus are (literally and figuratively) successors to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus which means the latter, in comparison, are dated phones. Flipkart is basically asking potential buyers to give away their new-generation phones for an older-generation phone.
What is particularly baffling is that no other smartphone (Android) would give you a Rs 22,000 discount in exchange meaning you’ll absolutely have to have Apple’s best (second-best actually, because the iPhone 6S is now succeeded by the iPhone 7) if you’re looking to buy the iPhone 6 for Rs 9,999. Apple is known to discontinue previous-generation phones quickly than any other OEM. Even if it doesn’t do it, on paper, it would stop offering updates to them. Even if it rolls out updates for them, many features that rely on new hardware, won’t necessarily work (well) on them. Older iPhones getting slower post recent updates is a common sight.
The iPhone 6 may be still new, but, it is still one-generation older than the iPhone 6S which means it would ideally come to end-of-life faster in comparison. To sell away your iPhone 6S to buy an iPhone 6, even at Rs 9,999, isn’t the wisest of decisions, on any given day.
