Call it the sweet effects of competition. At least for the consumers. Prices of mobile data and calls are in free fall after Jio’s entry and now they are going to even lower. Airtel has now come out with the data and voice plans for its pre-paid users so that it can match what Jio is offering , at least in terms of prices for its basic plans. The latest plans with which Airtel attempts to take on Jio are its Rs 149 plan, Rs 349 plan and Rs 399 plan.
Reliance Jio changed the entire telecom market with its cheap and unlimited tariff plans last year. Well, it was free last year. The paid plans came only this year. Jio was introduced back in September last year, and since its arrival, it is giving sleepless nights to other telecom giants like Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea Cellular. It has managed to attract millions of customers.
Now Airtel has introduced several new ultra-low cost data and free voice call recharge packs for its prepaid users which start from a minimal amount of Rs 8 to Rs 399. The telecom operator has introduced a range of plans. These are Rs 8, Rs 40, Rs 60, Rs 149, Rs 199, Rs 349 and Rs 399 plans. To recall, Reliance Jio also offers Rs 149, Rs 349 and Rs 399 plans for its customers. So the question now is: which one offers better value for money, the Jio plans or the Airtel plans?
Airtel vs Jio: Rs 349 plan
Both Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio offer Rs 349 plan. This recharge pack is limited to the prepaid users only. Taking a detailed look at both the offerings, Airtel is offering unlimited local and STD calls to its users in this plan. Along with the free voice calls, it is also offering 28GB of 4G data for 28 days. There’s a daily FUP limit of 1GB for this Airtel plan.
Coming to Jio, it also offers a Rs 349 plan. Again, this plan is also limited to the prepaid users only. Under the Rs 349 plan, Jio is offering unlimited voice calling (Local and STD) to its customers like Airtel. Jio is also offering 20 GB of 4G data for 56 days. This plan doesn’t come with any FUP limit.
Airtel vs Jio: Rs 399 plan
Under the Rs 399 plan, Airtel is offering unlimited voice calls, both local and STD, to its prepaid users. It is also offering up to 84GB of 4G data for 84 days. The plan comes up with a daily FUP limit of 1GB. On the other hand, Jio is also offering a similar plan. Jio under its Rs 399 plan is offering unlimited voice calls, both STD and local. It also offering 84GB of 4G data for 84 days. This means that under the Rs 399 plan, both Airtel and Jio are offering almost the similar services to its customers but the difference is that Jio plan doesn’t have the 1GB FUP limit.
Airtel vs Jio: Rs 149
Airtel and Jio are offering another similar recharge pack. This is Rs 149 plan. Under this plan, Airtel offers unlimited voice calls facility between Airtel to Airtel number (Local or STD). It is also offering 2GB of 4G data for 28 days. Coming to Jio, under the Rs 149 plan, Reliance Jio is offering unlimited voice calls, with no strings attached. This means calls are free whether they are between Jio and Airtel or made from Jio to some other number. It also offers 2GB of 4G data for 28days. Both the plans are for prepaid users only.
Airtel introduces new plans for prepaid users
Airtel has also come up with several new recharge plans for its prepaid users. The cheapest of them all is Rs 8 plan under which the telecom operator is offering Local plus STD mobile calls at 30 aisa/minute for 56 days. In a way this is a booster pack. You will probably still have to use another data plan with the Rs 8 plan but the rates you will pay for calls will be lower. There is no data bundled with Rs 8 plan. The cheapest data plan offered by Jio is for Rs 19. Under the Rs 19 plan, Jio offers unlimited voice calls and 200MB of 4G data for 1 day.
Coming to the next plan, Airtel has brought a new plan for Rs 40 plan. This one gives users Rs 35 talk time with unlimited validity. On the other hand, Jio offers Rs 49 plan under which it gives consumers unlimited voice calls and 600MB of 4G data for 3 days. Airtel’s new Rs 60 plan is offers Rs 58 talk time with unlimited validity. There is no data with this plan. Airtel has also come up with another special plan worth Rs 5, under which consumers get 4GB 3G and 4G data for 7 days. Note: This offer is valid only for those customers who are upgrading to a new 4G SIM and it is one-time recharge only. Then there is the Rs 199 from Airtel under which the company offers unlimited local calls and 1GB 2G or 3G or 4G data for 28 days.
Jio vs Airtel
There are two important things to note here. The cost of data and the calls has come down significantly in the last few months. That much is clear whether you use Jio or you use Airtel. Coming back to the best plans from these two companies, we feel that the choice was never so better. Now whether you want to spend Rs 50 on your monthly phone plan or Rs 400, there are some great options available. At almost every price point, Jio offers more value. It’s lower-priced data plans come with unlimited calls to all networks and that is a great feature. It’s higher priced plans offers the same free calls along with data that has less strings attached as far as how consumers use it is concerned.
But at the same time, it is worth noting that Airtel continues to have a splendid network. The quality of service, especially in big cities is somewhat better with Airtel. So that is another factor before you decide whether you want to subscribe to the Jio plan or if you should get Airtel packs.
